Liverpool FC are once again in hot water after Oldham full-back Tom Adeyemi was left in tears following allegations of racist abuse during a fiery FA Cup 3rd round clash with the police set to investigate
With Liverpool winning 5-1 at the time, Oldham full-back Tom Adeyemi appeared to challenge a Liverpool fan at the Kop end of Anfield.
The supporter, who was wearing a Luis Suarez T-shirt, is alleged to have shouted racist abuse at Tom Adeyemi.
After the match, an eyewitness gave evidence to club officials and the police, claiming that he (the witness) heard a single voice shout: “You f****** black b******.”
Adeyemi, 20, had to be restrained and consoled by fellow Oldham team-mates and Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt with police now carefully trawling through CCTV footage of the game.
The news comes as tensions between Liverpool FC and the FA are simmering in the wake of Luis Suarez’s 8-match-ban after being found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.
Speaking of the incident, a disappointed Oldham boss Paul Dickov said: “I have not spoken to Tom about it.
“But I will say I know the kid and something has been said. He is a placid boy who has been well educated and has a fantastic temperament.
“So for him to react like that it’s obvious that something has been said.”
Meanwhile, Latics defender Dean Furman was more forthright in his words:
“He was abused and I’ll leave it to Tom and the police to investigate that.
“What happened should not happen in the game. It has been highlighted over the last few months and it is an absolute disgrace,” he added.
