Spain producing a stirring comeback to overturn a two goal deficit as they beat Chile 3-2 in St Gallen, Switzerland.
Cesc Fabregas was the hero of the night coming off the bench and bagged a brace as Vicente Del Bosque’s men put on a superb second half display.
Despite losing their number 1 ranking in the FIFA standings last month,La Roja Furia showed that they still remain the team to beat in the build up to next year’s European Championship.
Strength in depth, squad quality, skillful football and most of all, brimming with expectation having smashed through that ‘mental barrier’ in 2008 and 2010 respectively, the World Champions at one stage even had the confidence to play Sergio Busquets and Javi Martinez at centre-back.
With rotations and experimentation ever ongoing during the spate of international friendlies, Del Bosque commenced the clash with in-form Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo alongside David Silva and David Villa.
With the likes of Andres Iniesta, Santi Cazorla, Pepe Reina, Fernando Torres and Pedro assumed their positions on a frighteningly strong bench, the sense amongst the camp is that Spain will conserve their energy as they build up to Euro 2012 before letting rip.
Once there expect the likely favourites to purr and excite as they seek to become the first ever team to retain the European crown.
In The Stands must give a big shout out to Cesc Fabregas who can – in football terms – do little wrong at the moment as he smashes the myth that upon leaving Arsenal there is only one way a player goes; down.
In light of his terrific form, the Barcelona midfielder sought humility and attributed his fine form to his new found love of life before targeting a regular starting berth in the Spanish first XI.
“I have not been this happy for some time,” he said after the match.
“I am going through a great moment and let’s see if I can use that by playing more with the national side,” the former Gunners captain added.
