The Netherlands secured their passage into Euro 2012 by racking up a record 11-0 win against piss-poor San Marino with Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie bagging four goals.
Currently ranked the world’s number one side in the FIFA rankings (for the first time ever), the Netherlands put on a virtuoso display as they eviscerated their opponents at the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven.
Robin Van Persie got the party started in the sixth minute and goals by Wesley Sneijder and John Heitinga quickly followed as Bert Van Marwijk’s men raced into a 3-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, Dirk Kuyt, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (2), Wesley Sneijder (again) and Robin Van Persie (who netted three more times) turned the score into double-digits.
PSV youngster Georginio Wijnaldum then completed the rout in injury-time as San Marino were left to lick their wounds.
11-0! Really?! Our pub team full of 20-year-olds here at In The Standswould have done better!
