Tottenham have slapped a £50million price tag on playmaker Luka Modric in an attempt to ward off growing interest from Manchester United.

Modric has been the subject of much transfer speculation as Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson seeks a long-term replacement for the aging Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs and the Scot is ready to launch a spectacular summer bid for the Croat.
However, Spurs remain determined to keep hold of their prized playmaker and Chairman Daniel Levy has slapped an extraordinary £50million price tag on the 25 year-old.
Spanish champions Barcelona and London rivals Chelsea are also said to be interesting in securing Modric’s services, however, may well be deterred by the hefty asking price.
According to Goal.com UK a White Hart Lane insider insisted that, the former Dinamo Zagreb star is going nowhere and should United wish to secure his services, the bidding “starts at £50m.”
““Modric is a model pro on a long contract – it’s a non-starter. (Coach) Harry (Redknapp) thinks he’s the most gifted player in the squad,” the source also added.
The Spurs number 14 has been in sparkling form this season as the Lilywhites keep up their assault on the top four and a first ever UEFA Champions League crown.
