Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has joined Manchester City in a shock transfer deal whilst Wayne Rooney has warned City fans not to get too excited!
Hargreaves played just 11 minutes in years at Old Trafford having joined the club from Bayern Munich in 2007.
The battling midfielder has been hampered by a string of injury concerns which the Red Devils sought desperately to aid him with during his spell at United.
Nevertheless, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson decided to cut his losses with the 30-year-old who also lifted the UEFA Champions League with Bayern Munich in 2001.
Having been unemployed for months, Hargreaves has made his return to Premier League football by joining United’s title rivals Manchester City and passed a three-hour medical on Tuesday night before putting pen-to-paper on a two-year deal.
Hargreaves proved his quality to a previously skeptical English media with some stella performances for the national side most notably during World Cup 2006 where he was voted England’s best player.
Still, a phlegmatic Wayne Rooney has urged United fans not to worry too much and even went as far as suggesting that Hargreaves was finished!
“He’s been out for a couple of years now and, to be fair to him, he’s worked really hard,” Wazza was quoted as saying by the Sun.
“He got back last season, played one game, and then did his hamstring. It will be difficult for him to get back to his best but I hope he can.
“From an England point of view, he’s the type of midfield player we haven’t really had before. If he can get back, great, but it is going to be difficult for him,” he warned.
