Arsenal are close to completing the signing of Bolton defender Gary Cahill for an estimated £17 million with Cahill ready to agree personal terms.
Earlier this month the Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis met with his Bolton counterpart Phil Gartside to discuss the possibility of the 25-year-old’s transfer, with Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger also ready to seal the transfer of Christopher Samba from Blackburn Rovers.
Wenger has finally identified the need to shore up the middle of the Gunners defence and a double swoop for Cahill and Samba respectively may work wonders as the Gunners seek to end a six-year trophy drought.
With transfer talks well under way, Cahill is now ready to put pen-to-paper and sign for the North London-based club after Arsenal met the Englishman’s contractual £17m release clause.
Bolton themselves harbour debts of £93million and chief executive Phil Gartside is ready to cash in on the Sheffield-born star.
