‘We Will Spend This Summer’ Vows Arsene Wenger
Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger has signaled his summer intent by insisting that the he will dig deep in the transfer market this summer in a bid to bolster his young squad.
The Frenchman has come in for heavy criticism after failing to strengthen his team during the season as a lack of experience and leadership saw the Gunners’ season fall apart with pundits worldwide attributing this directly to Wenger’s lack of transfer activity.
The North London based club have recently been linked with a move for Bolton’s Gary Cahill and West Ham midfielder Scott Parker, as well as Argentine youngster Erik Lamela and speaking to reporters, Wenger insisted that he has already identified a number of potential summer targets.
“We have lists – number one, two, three – and we will try to achieve them,” he was quoted as saying by Goal.com.
“Unfortunately it does not always go like planned. It is very difficult to make things happen. We will work on strengthening the team. We are definitely out on the market – that is for sure.
“I like English players,” Wenger added. “They are good, but I have said the inflation for them is always very high.
“It is always a lot of money, but if we have to spend we will do it, if we are really convinced,” he added.
Wenger’s comments will come as welcome news to Gooners everywhere who have long reiterated the need for the ‘Professor’ to significantly bolster his young squad.
Beaten 2-1 by a hungrier Birmingham in the Carling Cup final in February and eliminated by Barcelona and Manchester United in the Champions League and FA Cup respectively, Arsenal have endured a miserable end to another disappointing League campaign and failed to end their trophy drought which now extends to six seasons.
