Barcelona’s hopes of winning a fourth-successive La Liga crown took another blow after suffering a surprise 1-0 defeat to Getafe.

Shock horror! Certainly that is the feeling encapsulating the Spanish press this Sunday morning as champions Barcelona suffered a totally unforeseen 1-0 loss at mid-table Getafe thanks to a 67th minute header by midfielder Juan Valera.

The defeat nevertheless was not without controversy as La Blaugrana had a good goal ruled out and also hit the post in injury-time.

The defeat leaves the champions on 28 points – a full six behind current leaders Real Madrid who thrashed Atletico Madrid 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
