Valencia 2-3 Real Madrid; Barcelona 4-0 Real Zaragoza

Real Madrid grabbed a priceless 3-2 win over Valencia at the Mestalla to stay top of La Liga three points ahead of Barcelona who thumped Real Zaragoza 4-0.

Goals by Karim Benzema, Sergio Ramos and a neat finish by Cristiano Ronaldo proved decisive although Jose Mourinho’s men where pushed to the limit by an otherwise confident Valencia side.

Elsewhere, champions Barcelona kept up the pressure on the league leaders by recording a fine 4-0 win over struggling Real Zaragoza.

Pep Guardiola’s men now have 28 points on the table, three behind Real after 12 games. The first ‘El Clasico‘ is fast arriving – 10, December to be precise!
