Real Madrid Ready to Dump Mourinho?
Reports emanating from Spain suggest that Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho’s time at the Santiago Bernabeu could be shorter than envisaged as pressure from the top mounts.
Real host newly-promoted club Hercules at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday evening in a potentially season-defining week for the Los Blancos.
Mourinho’s men languish a full seven points behind champions Barcelona and face a tricky second leg clash against Olympique Lyon in the Champions League come midweek.
The emerging pressure on the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ emerges from an increasingly fractious relationship with the Real Madrid hierarchy, namely, President Florentino Perez and club director general Jorge Valdano.
Mourinho himself has repeatedly stated his desire to stay on in the Spanish capital having joined the club last summer on a four-year contract.
However, should the former Inter Milan coach fail to topple eternal rivals Barcelona or land a major trophy, then the contract could be terminated sooner than envisaged.
According to The Sun, the Portuguese coach is already contemplating a move back to the Premier League with Manchester City, Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester United and even former employers Chelsea labelled as potential suitors.
A move back to South West London is sure to be riddled with sensationalism and intrigue following the coach’s acrimonious departure from Stamford Bridge in September 2007, and given the rife speculation and Mourinho’s knack of leaving when things at a club no longer abide by ‘his rules’, it cannot be ruled out.
