Real Madrid have completed the signing of Fabio Coentrao from Benfica for a reported €30million.
Coentrao put pen-to-paper in a six-year deal and will hook up with his new Madrid team-mates for their pre-season tour of the United States.
A statement on the official Real Madrid website read: “Real Madrid C. F. and SL Benfica have reached an agreement for the transfer of Portuguese player Fabio Coentrao to the Spanish club for the next six seasons.”
It was initially assumed that Los Blancos were unprepared to meet Coentrao’s contractual buy-out clause of €30million, however, an eager Jose Mourinho pushed hard before landing his man who shined for Portugal during last summer’s World Cup.
