Mario Balotelli was reduced to tears after Italy were soundly beaten by champions Spain in the Euro 2012 final

Balotelli was the hero of the semi-final after his brace helped the Azzurri bag a famous 2-1 win over Germany. However, the 21-year-old was powerless to stop Spain in Kiev and then clashed with members of Italy’s backroom staff after the match.

Goals by David Silva, Jordi Alba, Fernando Torres and Juan Mata gave Vicente Del Bosque’s men their third successive title as La Roja confirmed their status as the world’s number one side.

Still, ‘Super Mario’ leaves Kiev with his head held high after a very impressive tournament and is sure to be a continuing star for the Azzurri in the future.
