Chelsea beat Bayern Munich 4-3 on penalties to lift their first ever Champions League crown in a dramatic night at the Allianz Arena.
Didier Drogba was the hero as he headed home an equaliser two minutes from time before sweeping home the deciding penalty during a tense shootout.
After squandering a host of chances in the first-half, Thomas Muller thought he had given hosts Bayern Munich their fifth European crown when he rose unmarked at the far post to nod the ball past Petr Cech in the 83rd minute.
But Jupp Heynckes’ men were outdone by Drogba minutes later and again missed a glorious opportunity during extra-time when Arjen Robben saw his spot-kick saved by Cech.
Ivica Olic then failed to convert a great cross by Lahm as his shot crept agonizingly wide.
Ultimately it was Chelsea who were to emerge triumphant under the German skies thanks to Didier Drogba’s decisive spot-kick.
