Paul Scholes scored a wondergoal as he celebrated his Manchester United testimonial against New York Cosmos with an emphatic 6-0 thrashing of the American team at Old Trafford.
The United legend pulled the curtain down on an illustrious 17-year career with his boyhood club after May’s Champions League defeat at the hands of Barcelona at Wembley.
Still, the ginger midfield maestro showed that he has not lost much of his touch (as well as his ability to strike a ball with ferocity) as he opened the scoring with a spectacularly rasping shot as early as the eighth minute.
Wayne Rooney, Anderson, Danny Welbeck and Mama Diouf also got on the scoresheet against a New York Cosmos side managed by Eric Cantona and harbouring the likes of Robbie Keane, former World Player of the Year Fabio Cannavaro, Dwight Yorke and Brad Freidel.
