Yesterday may have been Valentines Day, but unfortunately for the missus she had to get to grips with me being reacquainted with my first love… No, I’m not talking about The Rock returning to WWE (that’s #2), I’m talking about Premier League Stickers!
t began back in ’95, completing my very first Premier League sticker album. Even going to the swapshop at Legoland, Windsor to get those last remaining stickers that eluded me (and also to get my driving licence). Since then, every year I can always be found buying stickers trying to complete my album or swapping with friends, who are also in their early twenties and still collect too.
It’s got to the point where if there’s change when a lottery ticket or 4-pack of beer are bought, the remaining coins will be spent on stickers.
I even dabbled with Match Attax cards last summer for the World Cup, albeit after bumping into a friend who was ever so intoxicated, who just bought 20 packs and a collectors album, after seeing a kid getting bought the same by his dad. It seemed a good idea at the time to collect alongside my World Cup sticker collection.
Since 2009 Topps has taken over Merlins stickers as well as having the Match Attax and I have been getting my hands on this seasons stock. Normally I’m a sceptic about anything to do with 3D, but the new 3D stickers do actually add a bit more fun to collecting. As for the online content, Topps have built a little online community where you can easily keep track of your cards/stickers and purchase individual ones to complete your collection. Fantastic addition to take collecting into the 21st century.
As for you other collectors, if anyone has any swapsies, let me know and hopefully we can help each other out…
