French champions Olympique Marseille smashed Manchester United 8-2 in a pre-season encounter in Monaco on Tuesday night.
Goals by Nicolas Nkoulou, Alou Diarra and a double from Loic Remy, Jordan Ayew (pictured) and Benoit Cheyrou sent the Red Devils to their most humiliating defeat under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Admittedly, the Premier League champions were without a host of first team stars but still were able to field the likes of Patrice Evra, Chris Smalling, new signing Chris Jones, as well as goalscorers Danny Welbeck and Thomas Cleverley.
Former United shot-stopper Fabian Barthez also made a special appearance in the Red Devils goal.
The match was organised by former Marseille goalkeeper Pascal Olmeta for his children’s charity and received positive support from a throughly enjoyable crowd.
Although well beaten, the result surely won’t affect United’s premier league odds – they’re still favourites with PaddyPower!
