Luis Suarez has issued an apology after refusing to shake Patrice Evra’s hand during Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Suarez was roundly criticized for refusing to shake the hand of Manchester United defender Patrice Evra during Saturday’s match after both sides had agreed before hand that they would do so.
Evra had initially stuck his hand out in peace but Suarez deliberately ignored it as he shook the hand of David De Gea instead before continuing to shake the hand of every other Manchester United player down the line.
Reports also surfaced that the two had to be separated during a half-time row as Evra confronted the Uruguayan star in the tunnel.
United went on to win the game 2-1 thanks to two goals by Wayne Rooney and after the match coach Sir Alex Ferguson branded Suarez “a disgrace to Liverpool” and he “should never play for the club again”.
Suarez has since issued a statement on Liverpool’s official website apologizing for his actions. The statement read:
“I have spoken with the Manager since the game at Old Trafford and I realise I got things wrong.
“I’ve not only let him down, but also the Club and what it stands for and I’m sorry. I made a mistake and I regret what happened.
“I should have shaken Patrice Evra’s hand before the game and I want to apologise for my actions.
“I would like to put this whole issue behind me and concentrate on playing football.”
