Latest on Tyneside: Duff off and Bartons latest outburst…

The latest in the ongoing saga in the North East is that; an offer of around £4 million has been made for winger Damien Duff and that Joey Barton (my favourite Newcastle player) has been making a nuisance of himself again in training.

Newcastle winger Damien Duff in action.

It is alleged that Roy Hodgson has put in a £4 million bid in for Duff to ply his trade in South West London for Fulham FC. With Duff one of the highest earners at Newcastle (reportedly £60k pw) and already 30 years old it would be foolish for them to turn down. For Duff it would be a great move as he would stay in the Premier League, play Europa League football and move back to where he lived before his time on Tyneside.

As for Joey Barton he has continued to run his mouth at the club’s training ground following his bust-up with local lad Andy Carroll last week. The Sun have a source who said “Barton told Steve in front of the other lads that he was making it easy for opponents by staying on his line and that they knew it was his weakness.”

The same source has said “In training, he has also been walking round asking ‘Which one of you is getting dropped so I play this weekend’?”

Now now Joey you are an incredibly gifted player, a poor man’s Steven Gerrard if you like but you are not a goalkeeping coach, nor are you the person picking the team. For you to earn a move to a team you deserve to be in, (a side like Villa) you need to put your head down and work hard. Shooting you mouth off isn’t going to help you get that move, nor is it going to make you a big favourite in the dressing room or with management.

Can’t fault you on your enthusiasm though and that’s why I’m a massive fan…

Barton and “favourite player” should not appear in the same sentence. He belongs in prison and not professional football.
