Lionel Messi saw his injury-time penalty kick saved by Sevilla goalkeeper Javi Varas as Barcelona were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw at the Camp Nou

In a match in which the hosts utterly dominated the three points eluded them thanks to a heroic performance between the sticks by Sevilla goalkeeper Javi Varas who denied almost the entire Barcelona front six before dramatically saving Lionel Messi’s spot-kick deep into injury-time.

Sevilla were also reduced to nine men after striker Freddie Kanoute was sent-off in injury-time and defender Fernando Navarro received a second booking also injury-time after lunging in on Pedro.

The draw means that the champions drop down to second place on 18 points, one point behind rivals Real Madrid who smashed Malaga 4-0 earlier on. Sevilla moved up to fourth place on 16 points.
