Goals by Riccardo Montolivo and a late Alberto Aquilani strike saw Italy beat Spain 2-1 during the midweek spate of matches.

Xabi Alonso had temporarily levelled for the European and World champions at the Stadio Comunale San Nicola in Bari.
However, it was Liverpool forgotten man Alberto Aquilani who hit the winner six minutes from time after his deflected shot eluded Victor Valdes between the Spanish sticks as the Azzurri avenged their Euro 2008 quarter-final defeat at the hands of La Roja Furia.
