Mark Oxlade-Chamberlain has admitted that he missed his son Alex’s cracking strike against Brazil because he fell asleep!
Alex seized on Wayne Rooney’s pass to shoot Roy Hodgson’s men level after coming on as a second-half substitute during England’s thrilling 2-2 draw with Brazil at the newly refurbished Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
Reflecting on his son’s exploits, father Mark Chamberlain, who played in England’s well-documented 2-0 victory over the Selecao in 1984 told BBC Radio 5 Live, ‘I was a bit gutted. I actually didn’t see it! I had loads of texts saying it was a fantastic goal.
‘I was dropping his mother off at the airport at 6am this morning and I fell asleep! I have it on tape and will watch it back later.’
