A Hearts fan has been charged with assault aggravated by religious prejudice after a touchline attack on Celtic coach Neil Lennon during the Hoops’ 3-0 win at Hearts.
Trailing 2-0 at the time, the angry Hearts fan evaded crowd police and raced his way towards the away dugout where he launched himself at the Celtic boss. Lennon himself was said to have been shaken by the ordeal but outwardly remained positive even going so far as mildly side stepping the attack after the match.
The fan in question was a 26 year-old man by the name John Wilson. Mr Wilson, seen wearing a navy baseball cap and a white zipped top, was concomitantly charged with breach of the peace aggravated by religious prejudice and assault aggravated by religious prejudice.
The suspect appeared at a private hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday afternoon. No plea or declaration was made during the hearing and Mr Wilson was remanded in custody.
