Granada 0-1 Barcelona; Xavi Free-kick Sends Barca Top of La Liga
Xavi scored a superb first-half free-kick to give Barcelona all three points over nine-man Granada and send Pep Guardiola’s men top of La Liga albeit temporarily.
The midfield maestro was making a record-breaking 392nd La Liga appearance for the Catalans who were seeking to get back to winning ways after losing their 100 per cent Liga home record with a disappointing 0-0 draw with Sevilla on Saturday.
In typical fashion Pep Guardiola’s men dominated much of the possession and were duly rewarded in the 33rd minute when Xavi curled in an exquisite free-kick.
The hosts Granada were dealt a massive blow in the 54th minute when Jaime picked up a second yellow card for a high challenge before defender Dani Benitez also saw red in stoppage for dissent after he kicked the ball away in frustration.
