Three cheers for Sepp Blatter…’hip-hip’…actually forget about that.

Anyway, a modern day miracle has happened; the International Football Association Board have actually decided to listen to football fans and commentators the world over and have decided to seriously consider the use of goal-line technology in football.
If approved, FIFA President Sepp Blatter is ready to sanction the use of goal-line technology as early as the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Clearly still riled by that decision against Germany during England’s 4-1 defeat last summer at the hands of the Germans, Premier League boss Richard Scudamore has gone one step further and vowed to introduce goal-line technology as early as March 2012!
The news was announced at a FIFA conference in Rio de Janeiro ahead of Saturday’s qualifying draw for the 2014 World Cup.
We can only cheer on delightfully at the news before quickly asking ourselves what exactly is there to debate and talk about?
Here are three conclusive reasons as to why we at In The Stands feel goal-line technology is a must!
1. Who Remembers Frank Lampard’s ‘Goal’ that never was against Germany?
Even Steven Wonder would have given it and at such a crucial moment in the match, how oh how did the officials (especially the linesman) miss it?

2. Pedro Mendes vs Manchester United, 2005
They say that the away sides do not get decisions up at Old Trafford, and this just proved it. Two minutes from time, Pedro Mendes goes for a ‘Nayim’ from the half-way line, the ball is fumbled by Roy Carrol and crosses the line by a full 2 yards. A goal? Nope, you do not get decisions at Old Trafford remember?!

3. Sir Geoff Hurst – England 4-2 West Germany, 1966 World Cup final.
Actually we would like to retract our statement based on this legendary goal by Sir Geoff Hurst. The ball was miles over the line! No need for technology here!
