In The Stands have been made aware of secret FA plans to instill Harry Redknapp as the new England manager and an official approach will be made for the Spurs coach as early as next spring.
The revelations are bound to send shockwaves across the England camp and could throw all preparations for Euro 2012 upside-down.
The Three Lions have all but secured their place in next summer’s tournament although on the back of a very poor showing against Wales on Tuesday night, few pundits and sports journalists remain convinced about the Three Lions’ chances.
Although currently ranked the fifth best team in the world in accordance to FIFA’s World Rankings, Capello’s men floundered to an uninspiring 1-0 against a Welsh side ranked some 113 places behind them.
The poor performance was compounded by the Italian’s admission that he “could not motivate his players” prior to kick-off in a way similar to Kevin Keegan in 2001 as England crumbled to a 1-0 defeat to Germany in the very last game at the Old Wembley.
Now In The Stands has learnt that the English FA are determined to act sooner rather than later as they attempt to ‘push the Italian out’ as the possibility of Harry Redknapp managing England at the finals now being openly discussed in the corridors of power in Soho.
Redknapp has always been a target for the FA who are particularly fond of his straight-talking passion, coupled with his man-management skills which have won the former Portsmouth and West Ham coach many admirers from up-above.
Current coach Fabio Capello was already set to leave his post at the end of the Euros although the option to pay him off early so that Redknapp can come in on a part-time basis until the Championships begin in earnest come June remains likely.
The news will not go down too well with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy who has reportedly slapped a £15million price tag in the form of compensation should the FA nab the man who took Spurs to their first ever UEFA Champions League journey.
