AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado was sent-off for kicking a fan during a feisty Dutch Cup tie against Ajax with AZ boss Gertjan Verbeek also ordering his men to abandon the match!
‘Simply shocking’ ran the backpage headlines across the Dutch peninsula and for good reason.
In what can only be described as an explosive Dutch Cup encounter, AZ Alkmaar keeper Esteban Alvarado saw red for booting a furious Ajax fan who had ran on the pitch to attack him!
The referee wasted little time in sending off Esteban who protested vigorously at the decision. The story does not end there however, as incandescent with rage, AZ boss Gertjan Verbeek ordered his side to walk off the pitch in protest.
Ajax were winning 1-0 at the time – not that many people noticed! Jheeze, and we thought that Real Madrid and Barcelona hated each other!
