In The Stands can confirm that Chelsea are ready to cut their losses with beleaguered boss Andre Villas-Boas sooner rather than later after a poor 2-0 Carling Cup quarter-final defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday.

Villas-Boas’ fate was sealed after Liverpool’s second win at Stamford Bridge in nine days saw the Blues crash out of this season’s Carling Cup in a truly dreadful showing in front of frustrated Blues fans.
With the Premier League title also beyond their reach this season, a worried Chelsea board have conveyed together and reached the conclusion that current boss Andre Villas-Boas is not up to the job and will be relieved of his duties.
In the meantime, bloodthirsty owner Roman Abramovich has been in secret talks with former Turkey and Russia coach Guus Hiddink, who the Russian billionaire is close to as well as very fond of.
Hiddink himself was also relieved of his duties after Turkey failed to qualify for Euro 2012 and although currently unemployed, the Dutchman will relish the chance to return to Stamford Bridge and take over the reins for a second – this time longer – spell in charge.

The man who guided PSV to European Cup glory in 1988 also led Chelsea to FA Cup success in 2009 and came within a whisker of taking the South-West London club to a second consecutive Champions League final but was denied in cruel fashion after Andres Iniesta’s last-gasp equaliser at Stamford Bridge in a controversial match against Pep Guardiola’s treble-winning Barcelona side.
All it will take for a dramatic return to South-West London is his implicit or explicit approval-come-nod, which will in essence be the final nail in the coffin for current Blues coach Andre Villas-Boas.
It is well known within the Chelsea hierarchy that ‘AVB’ is a proverbial ‘Dead man walking’ with the sides current slump in form showing no signs of abating.
Keen to not rock an already unstable boat too much in such a crucial period of the season, In The Stands understands that the Chelsea board are willing to allow Villas-Boas to take charge of the Blues’ next two matches – a crucial Premier League clash at Newcastle before Tuesday nights do-or-die UEFA Champions League clash with Valencia at Stamford Bridge.
The decision to do so has split the Chelsea hierarchy with some members arguing that should – as likely – the Blues lose both games, then their season will be done for – all this before the start of the new year.
It is a risk which certain members of the board do not wish to take although Roman Abramovich himself is said to be coy on such a decision.
The most pressing issue is that Andre Villas-Boas’ time at SW9 is all but finished with the marksmen/executioners just waiting for the green signal before they send another Blues boss to an untimely end.
