Cesc Fabregas Nears £32m Barcelona Move
Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas is closing in on his long awaited £32 million move to Barcelona with a deal set to be put in place by the end of the week.
The Spaniard has been the subject of much transfer speculation this summer with Pep Guardiola having pinpointed the Catalan-born star as his number 1 priority ahead of the new season.
Now Guardiola – held to be Fabregas’ idol – is closer than ever to securing his man as the European champions increase their bid for the Gunners number 4 to £32 million, with add-ons amounting to £34 million.
Lille’s Gervinho and Velez Sarsfield’s Ricky Alvarez – both valued at £11 million, have been identified as possible replacements for the midfielder although the Gunners have had their premier bid for Ricky Alvarez turned down.
A phlegmatic Cesc Fabregas spoke little about any possible move whilst on holiday in Catalunya, although his heart seems set on a move back to his spiritual home.
”There is nothing to talk about. I’m calm. If something has to happen it will. I am always optimistic,” he said calmly.
”If a player is on the market it’s because a club doesn’t want him. I have no problem.”
As reported by us at In The Stands this week, the Gunners are also poised to seal the transfer of Bolton defender Gary Cahill whilst also seeking to ward off Manchester United’s growing interest for midfielder Samir Nasri.
