Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has dipped into the transfer market in a last gasp attempt to bolster his already thin squad by securing the services of Brazilian fullback Andre Santos and Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker…
The official Arsenal website announced the signing of Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker on Wednesday evening with the big German centreback having put pen-to-paper in a £7.9million deal.
“We are delighted to welcome Per Mertesacker to the Club,” Wenger told the official Arsenal website. He is a German international with vast experience and strength and is good on the floor and in the air. I believe he will be well-suited to the Premier League and a tremendous asset to the team,” the Frenchman added.
Meanwhile, 28-year-old Fenerbahce fullback Andre Santos is the other signing bound to excite Gooners although Wenger faced a race against time to end his search for another midfielder before the transfer window closed with a £20million deal for Rennes star Yann M’Vila still yet to be completed.
Nevertheless, In The Stands understands that a deal for Everton’s creative midfielder Mikel Arteta is ready to be finalized just as the summer transfer window closed shut.
The Gunners were also linked to Fulham midfielder Clint Dempsey, whilst youngster Henri Lansbury has left to join West Ham on loan.
Earlier in the week South Korean captain Park Chu-Young joined the club from Monaco in a deal believed to be in the region of £3million.
