Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit has spelled out an ominous warning to Arsene Wenger and Arsenal football club by predicting that the North London club will be finished if they continue to sell their top players
Arsenal sold captain Cesc Fabregas and later playmaker Samir Nasri in the summer to Barcelona and Manchester City respectively.
Coach Arsene Wenger has since failed to adequately replace the midfield duo amidst much unrest frustration amongst Gunners fans with the club languishing in 15th place in the table.
Worried about the club’s transfer policy, and the growing concerns that the Gunners are becoming a ‘selling club’, former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has warned that the Gunners will be ‘dead’ if they carry on selling off their top players.
“Once the club used to let players go when they had reached the end of their careers, the likes of Bergkamp, Henry, Vieira, Pires or myself,” Petit was quoted as saying by Mirror Sport.
“Now they’re losing Fabregas and Nasri when they’re at the top of their game. If you continue to sell your best players, the club is dead.”
The Frenchman also gave a scathing indictment of the Arsenal team which he believes can no longer compete with Europe’s finest as another protest aimed at Arsene Wenger is set to take place ahead of Arsenal’s crucial mid-table clash with Sunderland on Sunday.
“[The team is] very unbalanced. I don’t understand why [he] didn’t go after Scott Parker or Joey Barton,” he questioned.
“And you don’t play at the top level with the sort of defence Arsenal has. The team will never be complete with all the injuries either, which are numerous.”
