Germany clinched their ninth successive victory in Group A after a superb 3-1 win away to Turkey to prove that they are arguably the best team in Europe right now.

Goals by the in-form Mario Gomez, Thomas Muller and a late Bastian Schweinsteiger penalty sealed an impressive 3-1 win for Germany at the Turk Telecom Arena in Istanbul to give the visitors a perfect 9-out-of-9 wins in Group A.
Of course Germany’s winning credentials have been (and can never be) doubted when it comes to qualifying and participating at major tournaments – after all, they have always been known to ‘deliver’ when showtime comes around.
Still, success has eluded Die Mannschaft in recent years with the teams last taste of silverware coming 15 years ago at Euro 1996.
Since then a mixture of bad luck, poor displays and Spain have gone on to deny the three-time World champions more tournament glory as the Germans are slowly beginning to earn the moniker of ‘losers’.
Yes, Germany ‘losers’ is not something to scoff at. A poor 1-0 loss to Spain at the Euro 2008 final was followed up by defeat at the semi-final stage by the same opposition two years later in South Africa.
This on the back of a heartbreaking extra time elimination at the hands of Italy in their own backyard at World Cup 2006, whilst at Euro 2004, Rudi Voller’s men did not even get out of the groups.
Today something different seems to be pervading this current crop of German stars as evidently seen by their 3-1 rout over Turkey in a hostile Turkish environment.
The Germans appear to already harbour a winner’s mentally, look supremely confident, are blessed with some of the finest young talent on the continent, moreover, they play with a concoction of fluidity hitherto not seen since Euro 1996.
They and Spain are the overwhelming favourites to hoist aloft the European Cup come July 2012, but with players like Mario Gozte, Mesut Ozil, Mario Gomez, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Manuel Neuer and Phillip Lahm, who will bet against Loew’s charges going all the way in Ukraine/Poland?
