Substitute Aaron Ramsey came off the bench to score the winner as Arsenal secured a priceless 1-0 away to Olympique Marseille at the Stade Velodrome.
Defensive solidarity, confident in the result as well as harbouring a ruthlessness hitherto unseen so far this season. Such qualities were clearly on show for Arsene Wenger’s men on Wednesday as they braved a hostile French crowd to grab a 1-0 win over Olympique Marseille.
After a much needed win over Sunderland at the weekend courtesy of Robin Van Persie’s magnificent double, it was imperative that Arsene Wenger’s men kept up the momentum with a flurry of ‘winnable’ games on the horizon.
A piss-poor start to the 2011/2012 Premier League campaign has left exasperated Gooners everywhere bereft of any confidence in their side.
However, oddly enough, the two international breaks have served to aid Arsenal, who, in the wake of painful defeats by Manchester United and Tottenham, have come to welcome the pause and reflection concomitant of an international break.
Refreshed, renewed and most importantly reinvigorated, Arsene Wenger’s men finally look to have kicked-off their season and finally managed to keep a clean sheet away from home in Europe for the first time in 2 years as the North Londoners slowly begin to resemble a well-oiled team.
Coach Arsene Wenger agrees; “The spirit (in the team) is good,” he told ITV after the match.
“The attitude is right and slowly our game becomes stronger with more certainty in our display. We go from game to game and grow as a team and that is very pleasing.”
Five of Arsenal’s next seven matches are at the Emirates Stadium with the likes of Stoke, West Brom and Bolton identifiable as ‘winnable’ games.
Has the season turned for beleaguered boss Arsene Wenger?
