The 2011/2012 La Liga title has been all but decided after a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick helped Real Madrid overcome Levante 4-2 to go 10 points clear of Barcelona.
Following Barcelona’s 3-2 defeat to Osasuna the night before hosts Real Madrid knew that a win would see them go a mighty 10 points clear and further consolidate their grip at the summit of La Liga.
Nevertheless, the hosts started the match tentatively and were 1-0 down as early as the fifth minute when Cabral headed Levante ahead.
However, before the cheers in Catalunya could even be heard in the Spanish capital Cristiano Ronaldo leveled things up from the spot on the stroke of half-time.
The winger then turned the match around with two strikes in the 50th and the 57th minute before Levante striker Aruna Kone quickly pulled one back for the visitors.
Karim Benzema then rounded off a fine team move in the 66th minute to seal a 4-2 win and the relief at the final whistle spoke volumes as Jose Mourinho’s men put one hand firmly on Barcelona’s Spanish crown.
