Great Goals Revisited: Lionel Messi vs Getafe

When the official Barcelona website labelled Lionel Messi’s wonder goal against Getafe in their first leg Copa Del Rey clash in 2007 the ‘goal of the century’, few dared to challenge it.

After all, he did run past six players before slaloming past the onrushing goalkeeper and gleefully tucking the ball home with his weaker foot.

On par with Maradona’s memorable effort against England in 1986, Messi’s stunner against Getafe was a moment in footballing folklore and a great goal which shall never ever be forgotten. Barca went on to win 5-2.
