After his much publicized refusal to play for his club during Manchester City’s 2-0 denouement at the hands of Bayern Munich, Carlos Tevez has been left out in the cold by City boss Roberto Mancini. But with City fighting on four fronts, should they really get rid of Tevez – yes or no?

Carlos Tevez Refused To Play For Man City

How sad that in what was supposed to be Manchester City’s fairytale European adventure in the very same stadium which is set to play host to the 2012 UEFA Champions League Final, all that we can talk about is Carlos Tevez.

That City were beaten 2-0 with worrying ease and qualification being in double-jeopardy has been glossed over after the Argentine’s apparent refusal to emerge from the subs bench and wear the City shirt.

It must be stated however, that Tevez denies the accusation, nevertheless, a furious Roberto Mancini has sought to get tough and it thus appears that Tevez’s days at Eastlands are all but numbered.

“I brought De Jong on for Dzeko because I wanted to calm everything down for five minutes, not concede a third goal and then afterwards put Carlos Tevez on,” the Italian insisted.

“Then he refused to go on, he refused to come onto the pitch. For me it’s a bad situation because it is impossible for a player to refuse to play and help the team.

“I cannot accept this. Can you imagine a Bayern Munich, Milan or Manchester United player doing this?

“He is finished for me. If I had my way he’d be out of the club. I decide the changes,” he raged.

Tevez

In seeking to make sense of the whole affair, In The Stands asks the simple question, should Manchester City and Roberto Mancini rid themselves of Carlos Tevez?

Yes, Manchester City Should Boot Out Carlos Tevez

The obvious and emotionally-driven answer to the aforementioned question is, quite simply, yes, Manchester City and Roberto Mancini rid themselves of Carlos Tevez.

This is a man who is paid an extraordinary £200,000-a-week plus, has numerous sponsorship rights and was (up until his very public desire to quit the club) the darling of the city.

Only Tevez has himself to blame for his current predicament. Why did he request to leave the club and then expect that upon finding nobody wanted him, his extortionate wages and the baggage he carries (apart from Corinthians perhaps), he would walk back into the City premier XI?

Tough luck Carlos. Stripping him of the captaincy and the signing of the fabulous Sergio Aguero is testament to the fact that NOBODY is bigger than the club and that at City, resources are (almost) infinite.

Tevez has orchestrated the very own predicament he now finds himself in and must face the consequences accordingly.

Carlos Tevez Bayern Munich

To be paid such money in an age where the majority of humanity are suffering financially, millions starve, inflation is rampant and footballers are stereotypically bashed by the media, the Argentine’s actions epitomize everything that is wrong with the modern-day footballer.

Out of touch, arrogant and axiomatically holding just too much power, if Tevez is not ‘made an example of’ and duly sent packing, the rotten apple might spread his disease within the City dressing room which could prove fatal as Mancini’s men challenge for major honours.

No player or employee can undercut his boss like Tevez did and he must be suitably booted out if only to set an example.

No, Manchester City and Roberto Mancini Should Not Rid Themselves of Carlos Tevez

In times like this it is very easy to let emotions and anger take hold. But aside from the fact that he denies it (and by virtue of doubt the case deserves to be examined), there are other reasons why Carlos Tevez should NOT be booted out of the Etihad Stadium.

It is well known that football fans have short memories. Those who are baying for Tevez’s blood now, cheered profusely when he banged in the goals which got City into Europe last season and propelled them to FA Cup success.

Make no mistake about it, when Tevez puts on the Blue shirt of City he gives his all and at his best, is their star player – 52 goals in just two seasons proves that.

The Buenos Aires-born star is a man from the slums. He misses his daughters, his wife and his family; all essential to any human being let alone a footballer, and so has a few ‘personal’ issues dogging him. Reason for his petulance? Perhaps. But how many other clubs will leave a player of Tevez’s quality on the bench? Hmmm…

Eric Cantona Kung Fu Kick

Granted, if he did refuse to come on it is bad, however, footballers before him have done worse.

Eric Cantona kung-fu kicked a fan, David Beckham and Sergio Ramos have deliberately got themselves booked, Adrian Mutu took Cocaine, Samuel Eto’o headbutted his coach and Wayne Rooney held Sir Alex Ferguson at ransom just last year!

All were forgiven and this being so, why can’t Tevez be forgiven? City would be the better with Tevez in their ranks as they fight for 4 trophies and given how short football fans’ memories are, a public apology to the club, to Mancini and to the owners may see this issue dusted under the duvet with the club ready to move on.

Forgiveness pertains to a strong heart.
