Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has admitted that the Premier League crown is beyond them before insisting that only Manchester United, Manchester City or Chelsea have what it takes to win the title.

Luis Suarez Liverpool

Hopelessly fatalistic or a shrewd, wise understanding of the enormous mountain standing before him and his team-mates?

Whatever was the reason for Luis Suarez’s concession that winning the Premier League title this season is beyond his team, the fact remains that many pundits and fans will agree with the outspoken Uruguayan.

Of first note, the leading trio consisting of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have larger, deeper and better squads than anybody outside the top three – bar perhaps Tottenham, who nevertheless struggle with an injury-savaged squad.

Moreover, City, United and Chelsea have all tasted the glory of success in recent years and harbouring world class players across the spine of their squads, know how to win and when to win.

The 2011/2012 Premier League title race threatens to be a truly special one because of what is now needed to win it. Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea have all made their best ever starts to a Premier League season, yet still find themselves almost in a dead heat at the summit of the league.

Manchester 3-2 liverpool, 2010

All three clubs score goals for fun, have mean defences, top class managers and crush the smaller teams with relative ease, rendering the matches between them all the more significant such are the consistency levels being exhibited.

It is something Liverpool lack although the Merseysiders lest they be reminded are not too far behind.

Kenny Dalglish’s men sit only six behind leaders City and United, whilst Andre Villas-Boas’s Chelsea are only three ahead. Compare that to the other perceived ‘top four’ club Arsenal who languish in 15th place – a mighty 12 points behind the leading duo.

Liverpool v Chelsea

Luis Suarez need not forget that Liverpool host United at Anfield on October 15th in what promises to be a blockbuster game and a victory will reduce the gap to a mere three points. Not bad for a side who have lost at Stoke, were smashed by Spurs, and drew at home to Sunderland.

As aforementioned, matches between the title chasers will be inimical in deciding the destination of the league crown; this being so, ‘King Kenny’ need only remind his men that they BEAT all of the top three at Anfield last season and even overcame Chelsea at Stamford Bridge 1-0.

Were they to achieve similar results this time around, who knows what might happen…
