Did Gervinho Deserve A Red Card After Slap on Joey Barton?
In a bad tempered start to the season, Arsenal were held to a goalless draw by Newcastle at St James’ Park with the match being overshadowed by Gervinho being sent off on his Gunners debut after an unsavory confrontation with the spiky Joey Barton. But who was in the wrong? You decide.

The sending off left ten-man Arsenal further bereft of attacking impetus and minus the creative talents of both Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas, Wenger’s men looked particularly thin, flat and rugged.
A harbinger if things to come? Perhaps, But what is certain is that the Gunners will struggle this season. Interestingly enough, this is the second time Wenger’s men have had a confrontation with Barton whilst up North.
Last season midfielder Abou Diaby was red carded after he lashed out against the Manchester-born lad with the Gunners looking comfortable. They then went on to blow a 4-0 lead.
Keen to play down the incident, Gunners coach Arsene Wenger blasted Joey Barton (who ironically has recently been linked with a move to North London) before adding that his side missed ‘several’ first-half chances.
He should have just stated that he “never saw it!”
