Five Things ITS Learnt From UEFA Champions League Matchday 5
PHEW! What a sizzler! Matchday 5 of the UEFA Champions League churned out some truly epic matches, tons of goals and five more valuable insights which In The Stands lists below.

After watching on hawkishly during the week’s action, the In The Stands team gathered around our panoptical-style office and drew up a list of five of the main things we learnt from Matchday 5 of the UEFA Champions League.
Here they are below. Try to guess why they have been included!
1. Chelsea FC and Andre Villas-Boas are in the midst of a crisis and if something is not done IMMEDIATELY, expect to see the line at the local Job Centre in SW9 grow by 1 (or more).
2. Every group runner-up should pray that they avoid Real Madrid or Barcelona.
For obvious reasons really. Yes, we except that to be the best you have to beat the best, but come on, who REALLY wants to face-off against either of the two Spanish giants come the last 16? Exactly.
3. Michel Platini’s vision of a more balanced Champions League is working.
Shown of course by the fact that little old APOEL of Nicosia have after years of struggle, qualified for the last 16 for the first time ever. Also the likes of FC Basel, Bayer Leverkusen and BATE Borisov held their own against the traditional big guns.
4. Manchester City are not yet feared nor respected enough on the continent to be deemed serious Champions League contenders.
5. Rio Ferdinand’s legs have gone…sigh.
