James Shaw has lost the plot again but he has a heart-felt message for all to read…Honestly it’s in there somewhere…

The ever present flashing line teases you with a poignant sense of void. You type a few words and read it back and it means nothing to you. ‘Manchester United are the most successful team ever’, ‘Arsenal are set to come third in a two horse race’…they are no more than basic points that turn into semi-elaborate 600 world editorials which will be read by a select few. They will no doubt skim read it, process and then throw it away like a soiled tissue covered with freshly laid shit.

I am by no means a great writer. In fact I lack nearly all the skills needed to be successful as a football journalist. To be perfectly honest, this piece will probably turn out to be some kind of self-absorbed perspective of my written career at present – although at first I intended to be the heart-felt opposite. The truth is that I’m weak, and I’m throwing in the towel to chase the life as some kind-of executive suit. I’ll make some money, buy a house in the fucking country, bring up some bloody kids – I’ll live my own life in rudimentary bubble – I’ll pretend to be some psudo-intelect, I’ll own and iPad as well as a classic bookshelf, I’ll buy a Toyota Prius and I’ll go to the theatre every week. When friends come over I’ll cook a three course meal and compliment this event with the soft notes of Jamie-fucking-Cullum: As long as you find someone and or something to love right?

In fact this makes up two of life’s simple rules to abide by, in my book anyway. These are as followed: 1) Love your life, 2) love the people around you, and, the optional extra, the one that people touch upon but never quite complete; 3) Make a difference. Now let me define that quickly: To go above and beyond your own personal existence to improve, influence or inspire your fellow humans around you. Anyone has this potential, I’m not quite strong – and like a lot of people, I do not care enough yet – but other bloggers out there have this power – delve deep people because they make a difference – they probe, they question and they want to change football. And whether they like it or not, they make a difference.

These passion pieces warm the heart and mean something and they deserve more exposure. Unfortunately, the general public are forced to read generic match reports as well as ‘Exclusives’ from the likes of Mark Bright, Ian Wright and Alan Hanson which read like retardant pulp, that points out the same regurgitated drivel every fucking week.

Maybe you should consider this my resignation. In fact when I read this after I have posted it I will no doubt feel physically sick because yet again I have produced some drivel that 8 people will read – sorry I’ll try not to get self-absorbed. Anyway, the message is quite simple – look around, investigate and find words which inspire you. Which means, exit this webpage…I’m joking, don’t, I NEED recognition.

Didn’t have any tissues so dabbed at my eyes with my own hair *sobs*

Can I be the one to make a difference to you .. “Don’t give up on it baby…”

Cheer up. You don’t have to produce great literature every time, just something that’s better than ‘The Five Hottest WAGs in La Liga’ every now and again.

This is really a great post. Especially because I can understand and agree with everything you’re saying. It’s tough trying to be a blogger and find an audience when no one knows who the hell you are. But if you keep going, and write stuff from the heart, then eventually more and more people will read your stuff. Like you said, I think we’re all sick of the generic match reports. I much prefer someone with an opinion, a feeling, some passion about what they’re talking about.

I say don’t give up. Because while only 8 people may read this, only 6 read the last one, and 2 before that, and the first few maybe nobody read. But that number will grow in time, if you keep writing.
