Kits

Thierry Henry has all but completed his two-month loan move back to Arsenal after photos of the French striker wearing the new Arsenal shirt were released.

The Gunners legend will spend two-months on loan with his former club and is even expected to feature in Arsenal’s FA Cup third-round tie with Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium.

He looks ok wouldn’t you agree? But is Henry’s loan move back to Arsenal a good or a bad thing? Let In The Stands know what you think…

Spain have warmed up nicely ahead of their friendly clash with England at Wembley by revealing a brand new strip for Euro 2012.

The outstanding feature of the new kit is its tightly-fitted nature; meaning that opponents will find it harder to tug at the European and World champions – an attribute which Spanish striker Fernando Llorente has come to welcome.

“I used one like this in the World Cup and it brought luck,” he revealed.

“And also, a tight shirt makes it more difficult for opponents to pull you back,” he added.

La Roja Furia go into the tournament as favourites and are aiming to become the first team to retain the European Cup as well as making it a hat-trick of major trophies after so many years of disappointment.

Arsenal have unveiled their new away kit for the 2011/2012 season with the club opting for a traditional blend of dark navy and light blue in a combo swoosh!

Available for pre-order from Tuesday 28, June, 2011, the new away jersey showcases the proud origins of the North London-based club 125 years ago.

As seen on the official Arsenal website, the front of the new away shirt is divided into two halves, the top half being navy blue and the bottom half being light blue.

The club crest predominately features on the right-hand side of the shirt, underpinned by a silky sign engraved either side of the crest itself.

The back of the shirt is entirely navy blue, with one sleeve navy and the other being blue. The away shorts are navy blue, as are the socks, which harbour the date 1886 printed on it. 1886 of course represents the year Arsenal were founded.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have both unveiled their new strips for the 2011/2012 season by adding a little twist and elegance.

The pair have been involved in some weighty clashes on the field having squared up no less than five times this season as the eternal rivals continue to monopolize the top of La Liga.

And now it seems the battle has gone into the designer boardrooms as well with both sides launching their new kits for the forthcoming season within one week of each other.

Real Madrid’s new home jersey comes in the classic heavenly white finish will feature gold coloured finishing around the side with the home strip harbouring a neat collar.

The away strip is jet black with no collars but like the home strip, maintains the gold plated trims on the sleeves.

Do you ever skim through the hot-off-the-press football strips and flush green with envy because your club have churned out yet another eye-sore? If your answer to this question is yes, then read on. If not, consider yourself lucky…

First of all I must say those who support a classic coloured team gain an advantage come post season. With red, blue and white at their disposal they have a lovely clean canvas to work on. All that is needed is a splash of colour and usually (*1) the kit designer is on to a winner.

Support a team who play in a garish yellow or happen to mix (*2) and things start to get complicated.

That said there is of course every possibility that simplicity will be thrown into oblivion only to be replaced by ‘conceptual’ or ‘experimental’. To translate: a pile of crap.

The key problem lies within deciding on an 2nd strip. That’s when the word ‘alternative’ come to the fore – a word that is both excessively broad and shroud in mystery.

Arsenal have revealed a special commemorative kit for the 2011/2012 Premier League season.

The Gunners unveiled their new kit which is available for pre-order as early as this week to eager Gooners everywhere.

Seeking to keep the club’s tradition of donning the infamous Red and White atypical with the North-London side, the new jersey captures the glorious spirit and history of the thirteen-time League winners.

Sponsored by Nike, as the norm, the strip harbours a scarlet-red body with white sleeves and a red stripe down the middle.

The shorts are traditionally white with a red speed stripe down the sides. On the back of the shirt below the neck reads ‘Arsenal’, while inside the front, on the back of the crest, reads ‘Victoria Concordia Crescit’, (‘Victory Through Harmony’).

Of course such a beautiful kit, along with the free-flowing football concomitant of the Gunners now needs the adequate silverware to back it up. Nevertheless, the 2011/2012 season will once again promise much for Wenger’s men, who at least have a kit to impress!

Real Madrid crashed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of lowly Sporting Gijon as Jose Mourinho’s nine year unbeaten home record came to a dramatic end.

They say all good things must come to end and so it proved in the Spanish capital at Saturday night as unfancied Sporting Gijon toppled Los Blancos with a well deserved 1-0 victory.

The winner came in the 79th minute as the Madrid defence were left floundering by a slick-flowing Gijon move finished emphatically by former Atletico Madrid player Miguel de las Cuevas who drove low beyond a despairing Iker Casillas.

Minus Cristiano Ronaldo, fullback Marcelo, in-form striker Karim Benzema and midfield playmaker Xabi Alonso, Mourinho’s men struggled to find fluidity and rhythm and were guilty of missing a host of chances, notably from returning forward Gonzalo Higuain.

The defeat condemns the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ to his first domestic league defeat in nine years and 150 matches.

As part of Nike’s French ‘new era’ campaign a Nike representative talks football to new manager Laurent Blanc. It’s all arty and stuff…

Oh, and it looks like a rugby shirt.

Seeing as those savvy financial folk down at Liverpool have secured a £20 million a year deal shirt sponsorship with Standard Chartered, (one that should just about equal Manchester United’s Aon deal) I have decided to flex my graphic designer muscles and design what I think the kit will look like next year…

lpool

As you can see I have used the iconic Candy top and plastered Standard Chartered over the top. I reckon Liverpool will go down the retro look route seeing as everyone is doing it and it will give them a chance to come up with an excuse for only using it for a year. “oh it is the 20th anniversary SINCE WE WERE LAST CHAMPIONS!”, you know something along those lines.

Anyway come up with your own kit if you reckon you can do better and email it to us. Not likely though, I am the king of Microsoft Paint…

Just thought I’d bring to attention this Soccerbible article about a special edition Barcelona shirt for their one-off game against Man City. Supporting their “More than a Club” campaign all proceeds from the auctioned off shirts will go to helping education and the availability of sports in Refugee camps.

Barcelona already pay Unicef to have their logo on the front of their shirt (An idea also brilliantly taken on by Aston Villa recently) and I personally think it’s brilliant to see a big club promoting charity during an economic crisis where other teams’ heavy spending is alienating them from their fans.

Top club, top attitude. Can’t wait to see them wipe the floor with Real Madrid this season.

A list of charities Inthestands promotes is available here if you’re feeling altruistic.http://www.inthestands.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/coco2.jpg

A lot has been made of Newcastle United’s famous away strip this season, I personally have grown to liking it and went down the shops the other day to buy one. In the end I opted for last years purple away kit as it was only for a fiver, bargain. Enough about me, I saw this new shirt and I threw up in my mouth a little.

The kit was made to commemorate the successful Dutch team of 1978 but the fact that it is so luminous, is produced by Vandanel (who?) and sponsored by 188BET just put the nail in the coffin. How many Wigan fans will shell out £40 the top and £20 for the shorts? Probably a similar amount to how many bought Bendtners shirt.

There is some really nice away kits out there this year like Manchester United’s and Liverpool’s but this one is truly horrendous…

With England on the road to South Africa 2010 and the friendly against The Netherlands just around the corner, I’ve decided to make a few subtle alterations to the new England shirt. Though fine before, these slight tweaks will ensure that we win the next World Cup. Are there any obvious improvements I have missed out?
