Out of favour Tottenham striker Giovani Dos Santos once again proved his worth for Mexico after he helped his country overcome the United States 4-2 in the CONCAF Gold Cup final.
Trailing 2-0 after a poor start, Mexico rallied back with aplomb and a double strike by Pablo Barrera either side of by a goal by midfielder Jose Guardado put the Mexicans back in control at the at the Rose Bowl.
Dos Santos then sealed the result after he seized on a through ball before rounding Tim Howard, checking inside on his left foot and chipping the ball with amazing accuracy into the US net.
Incidentally, it was the third successive final between the pair with this clash proving the most exciting as El Tri bagged their sixth Gold Cup.

Frenchman Eric Hassli scored the Goal of the Season which earned MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps an impressive 2-2 draw against Seattle Sounders.
The 6ft 4 inches Sarreguemines-born forward seized on a loose ball on the edge of the Seattle area before flicking the ball up with his right foot and volleying a stupendous dipping volley beyond a despairing Kasey Keller.
A catatonic Hassli, who had a brief loan spell with Southampton in 2002, appeared just as shocked as the on-watching crowd after his spectacular effort flew in with aplomb.
So good was the goal, that we at In The Stands are happy to conclude that we may have found our long-awaited Goal of the Season. Too bad Hassli is 30 years-old, otherwise, we are convinced Manchester City will come swooping in with a £65million bid. After all, it was his sixth goal in 10 matches and, if Fernando Torres cost £50million…

The time has come again for In The Stands to once again reveal the cream of this weeks goals with the winner coming from a low-key second division Greek championship match.
Step forward Dimitrus Sialmas whose perfectly executed bicycle-kick, suitably preluded by an amazing piece of skill by team-mate Manwlis Skoufalis, wowed the small crowd during PAS Giannina second division match against Ethnikos Asteras in early May.
After making a short dash to the edge of the opposition box, winger Skoufalis produced an amazing ‘rabona’ cross with all the conviction of a gassed-up Cristiano Ronaldo. Realizing his moment to grab all the back pages across the land had arrived, team-mate Sialmas went one-step further by executing a flamboyant and superb bicycle-kick which eluded the goalkeeper and flew into net.
The goal put PAS Giannina 2-0 up in a match which they would eventually win 3-0 on their way towards securing promotion to the Greek superleague.
April’s Goal of the Month was a predictable affair with Dejan Stankovic’s mesmeric volley against Schalke 04 in the first-leg of their UEFA Champions League tie coming up trumps.
Approximately 45 yards was the official distance for all you pernickety bunch. Still, Stankovic’s scintillating drive from just inside the half-way line comfortably wins the In The Stands Goal of the Month for April.

Step forward Eden Hazard. When Ligue 1 table-toppers Lille visited the Stade Velodrome to take on champions Marseille in early March, it was widely expected that the bubble enclosing Rudi Garcia’s men would soon burst.
Yet it was not to be as Les Dogues pulled off a sensational smash-and-grab 2-1 win to reaffirm their title credentials as the Northern based side seek their first League crown since 1954.
In The Stands’ Goal of the Month section takes into consideration all the finest strikes across the continent which deserves to be replayed over and over again…
This month the winning strike comes from AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic whose sublime lob from distance against Lecce in mid-January ensured his side earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw at the Stadio Comunale Via del Mare.
In a far from pretty first half, ‘Ibracadabra’ lit up the second period with an exquisite lob from just inside the opposition’s half which left Lecce goalkeeper Antonio Rosati beaten all ends up.
The hosts would eventually equalize, however, Milan held out for a point as they continue their pursuit of a first Scudetto since 2004.
