Various XI’s

Various XI’s isn’t there for us to pick out our favourite footballers of all time, it’s there make us struggle. This week we set ourselves the task of picking eleven footballers with the surname ‘King’ to fill out a team sheet.

GK:Bryan King

Thought by most Millwall fans as The Lions best-ever goalkeeper . He spent eight seasons at The Den and still holds the record for a Millwall  goalkeeper of 168 consecutive Football League appearances.

LB:  John King

More successful as a Manager than as a player, John is regarded as one of the best managers Tranmere has ever had. As for his footballing career…he – who’d have thought it – played out the majority of his career at Tranmere.

RB: Phil King:

Although he spent most of of his career at Sheffield United and Swindon Town, Phil King is considered an Aston Villa cult-hero after scoring the winning penalty in a UEFA Cup tie against Inter Milan in 1995. Most recently he has resorted to a life of crime.

CB: Ledly King

My Favourite  XI By James Shaw

Sorry Joe, you didnt quite make the team

Goalkeeper – Carlo Cudicini (Tottenham)

As a victim of the Russian revolution I have always been sympathetic of Carlo. Without doing anything wrong, his role at the club switched from key-player to back-up when Petr Cech was signed from Rennes. People forget that the Italian made 210 appearances for the club, won the 2001 Chelsea player of the year, and recorded a clean sheet total bettered only by Chelsea legend Peter Bonetti.

Left Back – Leighton Baines (Everton)

A true professional in a sea of egos; Leighton Baines deserves a splash of the ‘Ryan Giggs treatment’ for his continued commitment, consistency and proficiency. This season he already has eleven assists, as well as the most successful cross rate of any defender in the Premiership.

Right Back – Lilian Thuram (Retired)

Adam Johnson (RW)                                                    Ashley Young (LM)

Wayne Rooney (FC)

Subs:

Ryan Shawcross

Joshua McEachran

Tom Huddlestone

Theo Wallcott

Tom Cleverley

Fabian Delph

Connor Wickham

Jordan Henderson

So do you agree?

Minus some obvious additions, such as Messi, Robinho and Rob Green, I have put together a team of players that have impressed me in the World Cup so far. Feel free to disagree.

GK: Diego Benaglio (Switzerland & Wolfsburg)

Very tidy against Spain. Some might have panicked at the sight of Villa, Xavi and Iniesta, but he kept his cool to earn his team a clean sheet.

LB: Fábio Coentrão (Portugal & Benfica)

Against North Korea Mick McCarthy commented that his price had increased by 4 million euro’s. He’s young, a good crosser of the ball and composed in defense, so it’s hard to disagree with him.

RB: Van Der Wiel (Holland & Ajax )/ Maicon (Brazil & Inter Milan)

I couldn’t decide between the two. Maicon is self explanatory but. Der Wiel, a less know player, deserves a mention as he has played will for the Dutch.

CB: Stéphane Grichting (Switzerland & Auxurre)

Just for fun… A team that the likes of Fabio Capello or Iain Dowie would be proud of.
ugly xi

And yet, this lot still manage to get engaged to the finest supermodels ‘money can buy’

PM Joins stars in world cup bid
With England Bidding for the World Cup in 2018, I thought I would make a prediction of the squad that we may be playing in that competition (who knows how close I will be).

Joe Hart(GK)

Kyle Naughton(RB)       Micah Richards (CB)        Jordan Spence (CB/C)           Kieran Gibbs (LB)

Lee Cattermole (Wigan) (DMC)

Michael Mancienne (Chelsea) (CB)

James Tompkins (West Ham) (CB)

John Bostock (Tottenham) (RW)

Ravel Morrison (Man utd) (RW)

Fabian Delph (Leeds) (CM)

Joe Mattock (West Brom) (LB)

GK. Shay Given
Yes. He is better than Cech AND Reina.

DL. Kieran Gibbs
Could beat Clichy to the number one left back spot, looks like the next Ashley Cole but hopefully not as twatish.

DR. Glen Johnson
Has cemented his England place and will be looking to prove that outrageous 18.5million price tag.

DC. Thomas Vermaelen
Cost about the same price as that useless Argentine at Newcastle, but because Wenger signed him and not Dennis Wise i make him 58 times better.

DC. Sebastian Bassong
I’ve put this guy in here because I’m sure he won’t be at the Toon next season, well….who would?, he’s proved he can do a job and with a top class centre back as his partner he could turn into something special.

ML. Matty ‘2 Wondergoals’ Taylor
Scored 2 less goals than Fat Lampard last season, an excellent player.
