Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has urged furious Arsenal fans and sports journalists everywhere not to criticize besieged Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger in the wake of Arsenal’s humiliating 8-2 defeat at Old Trafford.
Either Fergie is playing ‘Devil’s Advocate’, or has simply disregarded Arsenal as a serious threat to his Manchester United side, nevertheless, the Scot’s eyebrow raising comments can be disregarded as well…BS.
“I think it is unfair to criticise him (Arsene Wenger),” the United boss told Sky Sports after the match.
“The job he’s done for Arsenal and the philosophy he has — he has given Arsenal some very entertaining players. He’s also sold well and looked after the Arsenal coffers. People forget these things.
“It’s a cynical world now and when you lose a few games the judges come out.”
The 8-2 mauling marked Arsenal’s biggest defeat in the English topflight since Queen Victoria was on the throne way back in 1896 and marks a truly dismal way for Wenger to celebrate his 15th year in charge of the North London club.
In what is normally a super-tough, classic clash between two of England’s three most successful ever clubs, the Gunners were ripped to shreds so much so that even Fergie was bemused at the apparent ease in which his side clocked up a tear-inducing 8-2 win.
“It is a surprise because when you play Arsenal you expect a difficult game,” he admitted.
“If you look at Arsenal the team is weakened — but we still did the job,” he ended.
Fair enough Fergie, but are you really suggesting that Arsenal fans and sports journalist alike refrain from criticizing a deluded Arsene Wenger? What a load of B***S***.
