Sam Haase

We love Mario Balotelli, but as Sam Hasse discusses…could he be on his way out of the Premiership.

Love him or loathe him, you can’t help but talk about the enigma that is Mario Balotelli. Amid his recently imposed 4-match ban, Balotelli’s agent has come out publically and said that he feels that he is being victimised in the Premier League, and astonishingly, is ready to leave England.

Notts County fans last season had the pleasure of Mario Balotelli’s grace in last year’s FA Cup fourth round, which saw The Magpies earn a replay at The Etihad Stadium. Although at the time we had heard of Balotelli’s supposed ‘bad boy’ reputation, here in England we hadn’t quite experienced it yet.

But since then, Balotelli’s off the field antics have provided us all with plenty to talk about, overshadowing his evident ability on the field.

Known to set off fireworks in his own home, drive around Manchester dressed as Santa handing out money and throwing darts at youth team players, Balotelli is certainly an extrovert. But the days of Gazza and the infamous Spice Boys are now non-existent, and the exploits of Balotelli are unacceptable in the modern game.

As I am sure you are all well aware, John Terry has recently been stripped of his England captaincy, a decision that he will not have taken lightly, but the question poses, were the FA right to do this?

We saw how they dealt rather quickly and authoritatively with the Suarez-Evra debacle, yet they have seemed to be quite reluctant to deal with John Terry. Whether you aren’t the biggest advocate of Mr Terry or you are his biggest fan, the facts are there for all to see on what he said.

Personally, I believe he should have been dealt with in the exact manner as Luis Suarez was and given the exact same punishment, however, it could be argued that his England captaincy preceded him before his potential punishment. This has, quite understandably, left many football fans once again disillusioned with the FA and its decision making. Amid the recent trial arrangements for his case, fans have been enraged further as it seems that his case isn’t being taken as seriously as that of Luis Suarez.

Football and joy go hand-in-hand for Sam Haase as he takes account of one of his most cherished days in his footballing life…

Sunday 8th May 2011 will be a day I remember for the rest of my years, of that I am sure.

I started the year off unsure as to whether I was going to University, working at Barclaycard on my ‘gap year’ to earn some much needed money, and had just joined my old Economics teachers’ Sunday football outfit. In my younger years, god I feel old using that phrase, I wasn’t too bad at football, representing Buckinghamshire county whilst also having a spell at Rushden and Diamonds.  But since then school work got on top of me, I began to engage in a more active social life and so on, leading to the inevitable result of my talents slowly deteriorating. I had anticipated that I would have copious spare time during this ‘gap year’ and decided to join this football side in order to regain some fitness, whilst also ensuring that I met regularly with my old school companions.
