Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past 12 months or so you’ll know that Manchester City are the new big boys in town. They’re the only club that have been throwing cash around like it’s going out of fashion in a generally quite disappointing transfer window (so far)…
City’s biggest signings of the summer include David Silva, Yaya Toure and more recently Mario Balotelli. James Milner looks set to put pen to paper in a deal that is expected to be worth around £30m in the coming days with Stephen Ireland moving to Aston Villa as part of the deal. No player is safe from City’s millions.
The one place Manchester City haven’t focused on when looking to form a team that will compete at the very top level is their own club. At the beginning of last season they let club captain and former player of the season Richard Dunne leave much to the delight of the Aston Villa fans who saw him go on to partner James Collins in a rock solid Villa defence. If only Dunne’s replacement Joleon Lescott had gone on to have a good season it mightn’t have looked such a mistake letting Dunne go.

Ever since England were knocked out of the World Cup in embarrassing style by Germany there’s been a growing support for Howard Webb. It was announced yesterday that Webb will referee the 2010 World Cup final and there are endless stories in the press about this.
Are we so pathetic and patriotic that we must find something or someone English to get behind to see us through to the end of the tournament? Will there be fans on Sunday in pubs kitted out in replica referee shirts cheering the decisions of the man in charge? Come off it. This is Howard Webb we’re talking about. Do we really care?
