Sir Alex continues the war of words with city rivals…

Sir Alex Ferguson kept up the war of words between Manchester United and Manchester City, by last night claiming Tevez is not worth the price City paid and that they will not be contenders for the title next year.

In an in-depth interview Sir Alex Ferguson was asked about his feelings about Man City, Ronaldo’s departure and the upcoming season.

Fergie is quoted as saying “Manchester City are getting all the back page stories and they will hold that position for the rest of the season because there is a lot of interest in what they have done and a lot of speculation about whether it is going to work.
“But I cannot look at Manchester City as our main competitors. Liverpool and Chelsea are our main competitors. There is no doubt about that.”

The Manchester United boss could be telling his honest opinion here but with City building something impressive at Eastlands, ignoring there threat is something to be done at your own peril. City have always given United a good game and last season they impressed against other teams in the top four also. Comments like this will only help Mark Hughes motivate his world class squad in the upcoming season.

Sir Alex also commented on how he knew Carlos Tevez was loved by United fans, but he could not justify the price required to pay.

“The fans quite rightly have their heroes and I respect the fans so I was happy to go along with a deal as long as it was the right deal. Our success is down to the fans and their support, we need them when we are away from home to the likes of Fulham and Arsenal but he was simply not worth £25m.

Strong words from Sir Alex and most likely not the last we hear in the Tevez/United saga. Read the rest of what he had to say about Carlos here.

In related news, Sir Alex has said not to rule out Ronaldo returning to Manchester United. He is quoted as saying “United boss Fergie said: “He may come back, you never know. He loved United, he loved the club. If you look back at the six years he had with us, he never missed training.” As a Manchester United fan I hope he returns one day back to Manchester hopefully to play, if not as an ambassador. Nobody picked up on the dig at Arsenal there as well

  • Joe:

City were quality against the top teams but their problems were against teams like West Brom, where especially away from home their superstars like Robinho were very poor, I can’t see that being too different this year unless Hughes plans to use a ‘home’ team consisting of there fancy players and an ‘away’ team of the proven, less superstar players of the likes of bellamy.
