Spurs formation and signings for next season

Long has it been said that Spurs need a left winger. The majority of football fans know this, never mind Spurs fans. And yet, year after year, the transfer windows close and we have signed several more average central midfielders (not including Luka Modric who has shown signs of becoming a fantastic player) and we continue to lack any sort of balance on the field.
So firstly in this transfer window, we need to buy a decent left winger, whom is left footed, and can cross a ball as we definitely wont be receiving a good cross from the right (ahem Lennon.) Personally i do not see Stewart Downing fitting the bill. He is a good crosser of the ball and has been linked with Spurs for at least four years but it has not happened up until now and Downing is now a championship player so lets have a look elsewhere.
Bringing foreign players to the premiership has failed on numerous occasions for every club in the league and yet I believe that we must look to the continent for a quality left winger to fully balance our spurs side. We have been linked with Diego Capel of Sevilla in the past who will become a great left winger in the future. Arjen Robben of Real Madrid will be going on the cheap as he is now surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu. Whether he can be tempted to the Lane though is another matter. Other players such as Yury Zhirkov of CSKA Moscow are brimming with quality and we should be doing our utmost to sign these types of players, rather than average English left midfielders.
I also think that maybe a change of formation is in order. I think the Liverpool formation could suit Spurs really well. Gomes in goal as expected and the standard back four. Assou-Ekotto, Woodgate, King, Corluka. We have decent replacements in Bale, Dawson and Hutton as well so leave the defence alone for the time being. Palacios can take up the Mascherano role of the destroyer, he is in a similar mould. And although many people believe him not good enough for Spurs, i believe that Huddlestone can assume the role of Xabi Alonso, spraying passes around the pitch. Lennon on the right and a new left winger to balance the side. Luka Modric can play in the Gerrard role, supporting the striker which i feel will show to be his strongest position.
This leaves us with the problem of the target man. Liverpool have Fernando Torres, one of the best strikers in the world if not the best. We have Roman Pavlyuchenko! I am personally not sure whether Bent or Pavlyuchenko are up to the challenge of leading the line, and both Keane and Defoe cannot play on their own so it is possible that we need a proper target man but there are many about so our scouts really need to start looking.
Of course we could just stick to a 4-4-2 and so don’t need a striker but just a left winger. I guess that is Redknapp’s decision but if anyone has any thoughts on this then feel free to comment.
