Best Football Advert Ever… Nike – Write The Future
For the past week Nike has been floating little spoilers across the interweb in the build up to this advert. This 3 minute world cup themed ad made by Alejandro G. Iñarritu (21 Grams, Babel) was well worth the build up…
I was saying last week how I thought that Carlsberg had cracked it, but Nike have pushed the standards up even higher. I wasn’t sure what to expect from an advert 183 seconds long, but the action never stops.
Drogba’s little chip over the keeper followed up by (has been) Cannavaro’s glorious overhead clearance, followed by a snippet of a typical Italian gameshow with the centre half on (yes it makes me want to watch Italian football too). Endless amounts of footballers star in this advert with the likes of Tim Howard, Fabregas, Iniesta to name a few appearing.
Superstars from other sports like Kobe Brayant – who enjoys a stepover or two and Roger Federer who gets bossed to Rooney at table tennis complete this advert. Oh and to top off the guest appearances Homer Simpson of all people makes an appearance.
I’m just a little disappointed that there isn’t actually going to be a Cristiano Ronaldo movie like the teasers suggested. But I’m sure Nike are more disappointed that they devoted so much time to Ronaldinho’s skills and he hasn’t even made the Brazil squad. Ooops…
