Paraguay striker Salvador Cabanas has been shot in the head whilst at a bar in Mexico…

The 29 year old was conscious on the way to hospital but is now in intensive care.

Earlier in the transfer window the striker was courted by Sunderland with Steve Bruce saying;

I’ve monitored Cabanas. He’s a fantastic player and whether a deal is possible for him, I don’t know. He’s somebody who would be of interest to us but I’m sure if he became available, there would be a lot more clubs interested too.”

Our thoughts go out to his family and we wish him a speedy recovery.
