Palace in turmoil
The queen song, Another one Bites the Dust has become a very fitting metaphor for football teams throughout Britain’s recessional period. Southampton sit in league one, Portsmouth Look on the brink of collapse, Leed’s not too long ago hit rock bottom financially. Even Man United claim to be well and truly in the red. You have got to be a nut case to buy into a football team, don’t you?

Palace have been on the market for nearly a year. Their Chairman Simon Jordon claiming he was completely ‘disillusioned’ by the business of football. He once had a desire to build a young squad that would eventually grow into something special. Palace have always shown signs that their youth system may be a profitable venture with Nathaniel Clyne and, of course, Victor Moses standing out as players of immense quality.
But the catylist for Palace’s demise was the sale of 16 year old John Bostock. Their prised asset was given the value of £5 million by Jordon, but Palace where given a mere £750k after his departure to Tottenham. As such Jordon lamented that the FA board ” was a panel of halfwits”.
Since that point Jordon has been looking for buyers and has consequently taken a step back from palace. He has not pumped money into the club, stating he has bad cash flow problems. He is unhappy, and no one wants an unhappy chairman.
Now Palace have been deducted 10 points, and it may not be too long before their top staff and players head for the exit. It is a massive month for Victor Moses, will he want to play out the rest of the season in a club on the down, or will he opt for the challenge that may soon be coming his way in the form of Arsenal, Barcelona and all the other top clubs who have been linked with his name?
Moses will not play tonight against Newcastle, the club have stated that they want to protect their prized asset, but I believe his days at Palace are numbered. In their current situation I think Palace may have to hope teams are willing to meet their evaluataion of (Moses £8-12 million) rather than manipulate their situation to get him on the cheap.
The question is will Palace, in their situation, be sell-able? They need to be bought by someone who can push them forward financially, otherwise they might see themselves dropping divisions. One selling point is that they are in London, but with so many other clubs around them who present a better investment, Palace may fall short.
